CAFOD : Lent Family Fast Day

On Friday 15 March, CAFOD supporters will hold ‘Family Fast Days’ around Lancaster Diocese in support of the charity’s annual Lent campaign.

Catholics in parishes and schools across the diocese will be eating a simple meal of bread and soup and donating the money they save to CAFOD.

The money they raise will go to helping people whose lives are being devastated by changing weather, including Mahinur in Bangladesh.

Drought, floods and storms are having a devastating impact on our global family. Mahinur makes a living from fishing but a drought last year killed all the fish, leaving her struggling to support her disabled husband and son.

Mahinur cooks and cleans in neighbours’ homes for a bit of cash but it’s never enough. There are days the family have nothing to eat. But Mahinur’s experience is just one of many. The changing climate is wreaking havoc on hundreds of thousands of lives around the world.

CAFOD’s representative in Lancaster Diocese, Patrick Gardner, said: “The changing weather is devastating lives. The donations of parishioners and schoolchildren in Lancaster Diocese will help people around the world to support themselves, whatever the weather brings.

“Our work is made possible by the support of our volunteers and we are so grateful. This Lent, it is your generosity which will help ensure no one is beyond reach of the love and care they need. Thank you.” Donate to CAFOD’s Lent Appeal at cafod.org.uk/lent

Faith in Politics, the Catholic Parliamentary and Public Affairs Internship Scheme, which began in 2003, provides up to eight recently graduated Catholics with intensive experience of political and social action in a spiritual context.

Interns are placed with Christian MPs at Westminster and in public policy and social action roles at the Catholic Education Service (CES), CAFOD, and CSAN. All the internships also involve individually guided retreats and spiritual guidance throughout the year. Each intern will take part in the first year of a part-time Master’s Degree in Catholic Social Teaching at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, at the end of which they will gain a Postgraduate Certificate, with the option of completing the second year.

St Bernadette's Bispham - Pantomime

It's still Panto Season (Oh yes it is)!

St. Bernadette's Parish Players present the first Pantomime under their new name(can you spot the change?), written by Neil Oldham, who used to write for such programmes as "The News Hudlines".  Needles to say the script is full of puns and, in parts, is hysterically funny.

'The Mis-Adventures of Robinson Crusoe' follows the story of how Robinson, and his man Friday, are rescued from their deserted island and reunited with his fiancee, Jane, on a jungle island inhabited by women but ruled over by a monkey King, who also has eyes for Jane. The rescuing Captain and crew, with the help of the local Witch Doctor, thwart the money King's plans, much to the relief of Jane's mother, and Robinson of course. The addition of a couple of suspicious Australian castaways brings more hilarity to an already funny pantomime. Expect a laugh a minute and a play list of music and songs which will leave you happy'

Tickets are available from Ashfield Road Post Office; from Bispham Clothing, in Bispham Village; on-line atwww.ticketsource.co.uk/stbplayersblackpool

We are seeking to appoint two hard-working and enthusiastic team members for The Ark St Peter’s After School Club. This is a wonderful opportunity for the right candidates to join our staff team and be part of our successful out-of-school provision.   A commitment to the Catholic ethos of our school and experience of working with children within the 3 – 11 year age range is essential. Childcare qualifications (NNEB, Level 3 in Childcare) are desirable but not essential for the right candidate.
